Abstract
Woo and Mayer demonstrated experimentally in vitro that a few kinds of anti-tuberculous and ti-leprosy chemicals had potent antifungal activity and D.E.T.C. were most effective drug ong the tested cliemicals.
This result suggested the possibility of the clinical application of D.E.T.C. for the local therapy superficial fungus diseases. The purpose of our study was to clearify the clinical effect of local E.T.C. ointment.
For this study 43 cases of superficial fungus diseases were selected in the dermatological policlinic of Severance Hospital. Clinical evaluations were made by the clinical appearance, direct microsco- pical examination and culture and clinical effects were divided into ITIPROVED, UNIMPROVED, ,and EQUIVOCAL by evaluation criteria.
Initial follow-up evaluation of one month later showed remarkable involution of clinical appearance, negative direct microscopical examination and negative cultures in 34 cases of all. These results seem to suggest that 5% D.E.T.0 ointment is a good topical agent for the treatment of superficial fungus diseases.
